Saving the Bumblebees

What's fat, yellow, and black—and working for free in your garden?

The answer: A bumble bee, which pollinates your flowers, fruits, and veggies. How can you ever repay them?

You can start by protecting them. At least four species of North American bumble bees are in decline, and two of the four face extinction. These bees may be picking up diseases from commercially produced bumble bees that are transported throughout the country.

The Xerces Society, a nonprofit that protects invertebrates and their habitat, is fighting to save the bumble bee from extinction. You can help protect these important pollinators by

keeping track of the species and nests in your region.

Side note from me... I have seen a decrease in bees - there was a big exhibit at the NC Zoo about the decline in them in this state. Sad to see.. I do love honey !
